Most people don’t fully understand what chiropractic is, or the wide range of conditions we can treat here at ChiroCenter.

When most people think of chiropractic treatment, they envision a man or a woman, wincing, hunched over, and holding their back. Then, they see that person lying on a table, getting their spine adjusted while things pop and crack…

It’s true, chiropractic is best known for treating back and neck pain. And it’s true, sometimes you will experience an (oh so satisfying) crack or two during an adjustment, but there is so much more to the art and science of chiropractic and we definitely help you with more than just back and neck pain! We treat headaches, sciatica, whiplash, stress, allergies, and more! In addition, here at ChiroCenter, we take a holistic approach to your healing and offer lifestyle and nutritional counseling as well.

You may be wondering how chiropractic can fix such a wide range of health problems. Well, disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system can affect your overall health. The spine and the nervous system control and coordinate all functions of the body. If these systems are impaired, it can cause malfunction of the tissues and organs throughout the body. Therefore, chiropractic can treat a variety of conditions, including…

Back Pain:

Muscle strain, ligament sprain, ruptured discs, fractures, and irritated joints can all cause back pain. Methods of relieving back pain include adjusting the spine, physical therapy, exercises, and/or tissue massage. Back pain is one of the most common medical complaints. We have an entire post dedicated to back pain, so click here to read more!

Neck Pain:

Your neck begins at the base of the skull and contains seven small vertebrae. The neck supports the full weight of your head, which is on average about 12 pounds! Your neck can move your head in nearly every direction, but this flexibility makes the neck very susceptible to pain and injury due to accidents, poor posture, or just growing older. Also, stress and emotional tension can cause muscles to tighten and contract, resulting in pain and stiffness. We will utilize the proper adjustments and massages to help alleviate neck pain and get everything back in alignment.

Did you know that spinal bones in the neck that are out of alignment can result in a headache? This can affect nerves, muscles and even the blood supply to your head. Treatment would consist of specific chiropractic adjustments that will help normalize spinal curve and function, improve circulation, and reduce nerve irritation.

Whiplash occurs when there is a sudden movement of your head. For example, in a car accident your head may be jerked back and then forward. It’s very important to keep in mind that if you have been in a car accident, a chiropractic examination is essential! Spinal adjustment can restore proper motion and position of individual spinal bones, which reduce muscle spasm, develop muscular strength, and allow the neck to heal. We may also utilize physical therapy and strengthening exercises.

Sciatica is when lower back pain extends down the back of either leg. It usually worsens with long periods of sitting or standing. Improving joint motion with a series of chiropractic adjustments has produced positive results for many of our patients. Often times, after treatment, there is improved disc height and spacing in the lower back. Again, chiropractic is all about restoring the way your spine works, reducing nerve irritation, and helping your body to heal itself!

Scoliosis is the term for an abnormal bending of the spine, which can lead to an abnormal posture as well as pain. If left untreated, scoliosis can interfere with the lungs, heart and many other vital organs. Scoliosis is one of the more difficult conditions to treat, but research has shown spinal manipulation, therapeutic exercise, and electrical muscle stimulation to help alleviate pain associated with scoliosis.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most expensive of all work-related injuries! It is common among people who perform jobs where they have to make the same hand movements over and over, such as assembly line workers. CTS is a problem of too much pressure on the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand. Joint manipulation and mobilization of the wrist and hand, stretching and strengthening exercises, and soft-tissue massage techniques are used to treat this condition.

Yes, stress is often the result of our busy lifestyles and/or difficulty coping with emotional upsets, but chronic pain and muscle tension can also cause you to experience nervousness, irritability and anxiety. Regardless of the way stress is manifested in your body, your nervous system is involved. This is why chiropractic can be so helpful when combating stress. At ChiroCenter we utilize many stress relieving chiropractic techniques, and our cozy, relaxing clinic will only add to your sense of comfort and well-being!

This is by far the most shocking application of chiropractic care! An allergic reaction occurs when the immune system overreacts to a substance, identifying it as a pathogen. Since the processes that initiate the allergic reaction are passed through the neural system down the spinal cord to the body, chiropractic treatment can sometimes control the allergic reaction by working on the neuro-musculoskeletal system. Chiropractors remove nerve interference, which allows the immune system to work optimally, and a stronger immune system means less allergies.

As you can see, chiropractic can treat many conditions. Problems involving the nervous system can cause referred pain distant to the region of injury. During your visit, Dr. Shah will ask questions and perform exams to locate the source of your pain. At ChiroCenter, we address physical trauma, emotional stress, nutritional deficiencies, chemical toxins, rehabilitative exercises, and lifestyle changes. Our goal is to assist you in whatever way we can on your road to recovery.

Chiropractic offers a non-drug, non-surgical approach to getting rid of your pain. Make an appointment with ChiroCenter today!
